Autism Spectrum Disorder Assessment

An Autism Spectrum Disorder Assessment or the neurodevelopmental assessment is an evidence based way of assessing differences in the development of someone’s social communication skills and behaviour that are making life hard for them, their family and friends. Broadly speaking, this is a comprehensive process which brings together multiple assessment tools; a parent interview, an observation assessment, and a cognitive assessment. Information is also collected from people outside of the mediate family, to offer onsight into how the differences impact their life on other contexts.

Here’s what is included:

  1. An initial consultation with the parents alone to understand the history of your family and the child, their difficulties, their environment and their development.

  2. The assessment process:

  • 2 60 minute sessions (or a 120 minute session) to administer the Autism Diagnostic Interview with the parents or care givers.

  • 2 60 minute sessions (or a 120 minute session) to administer the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule with the young person or adult.

  • 1 X 120 minute session to administer a Cognitive Assessment.

  • A comprehensive assessment report which describes the findings.

  • A set of recommendations to support your child in the home and school contexts.

  • A feedback session to discuss the assessment findings, answer questions, and provide psychoeducation.
